Starting Location
Seven days to reach the farthest corners of Neelam Valley and the places most visitors never see. From Upper Neelam you push deeper into the valley to Taobut — a quiet village at the road's end where a suspension bridge spans the river, trout farms cling to the hillside, and traditional Kashmiri homes still stand as they have for centuries. Turn back downstream, ride the chairlift to cloud-perched Arrang Kel for two nights, walk the ancient forest, and make a final overnight at Keran before the drive home. The longest route, the fullest picture.
Depart Islamabad in the morning and drive east into Azad Kashmir, entering Neelam Valley along the river road. Arrive in Keran for a riverside lunch, then continue upstream through increasingly remote terrain to Upper Neelam. Check in at Green Village Resort as the evening light falls over the pine-covered ridges, with the Neelam River just below the balcony.

After breakfast, drive deeper into the upper valley beyond Upper Neelam, past Kel bazaar, to the village of Taobut — one of the last inhabited settlements on this side of the valley. The road ends here, and so does the mobile signal. Check in at Corner View Guest House with mountain views in every direction, then spend the afternoon exploring the area. A bonfire BBQ dinner makes a memorable evening.

A full slow day in one of Neelam Valley's quietest corners. After a late breakfast, walk to the Taobut suspension bridge — a single-span crossing over the roaring river — before visiting a working trout fish farm built into the hillside. Return for lunch, then spend the afternoon on a guided village walk, entering a traditional Kashmiri wooden home and learning how mountain families have lived in this valley for generations.

The chairlift is followed by a short hike to the village itself. Arrive for a late lunch with mountain panoramas, watch the sunset from the meadow edge, then settle in for a bonfire BBQ dinner at Wanderlust.

No schedule, no driving — just the forest, the village and the mountain air. Walk into the silver fir woodland above the guesthouses, following trails that weave between ancient trees with snow peaks visible above. Return for a relaxed lunch at the guesthouse. The afternoon is free to explore the traditional wooden houses of the village, sit in the meadow and watch the light shift, or simply rest. Another bonfire BBQ closes the evening.

A final breakfast by the river, with free time to sit at the water's edge before the long drive home. The valley road leads back through the pine forests and past the waterfalls you passed a week ago, then joins the main road at Muzaffarabad for a lunch stop.
